Legal Department
1. The Legal Department shall run a director and shall perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1.1 Drafts policies and legislative strategies in close cooperation with the Cabinet of Minister, Departments and with other organizational units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
1.2 Drafts primary and secondary legislation in close cooperation with the Cabinet of Minister, Departments and with other organizational units from the area of activity of respective ministry;
1.3 Ensures compliance of laws and other sub-legal acts proposed/sponsored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the legislation of the European Union (Acquis Communitare), as well as applicable laws in Kosovo;
1.4 Provides legal advices, recommendations, instructions and opinions required to the units and officials within the respective ministry and the government;
1.5 Assists the Ministry of Justice in the court representation for solving legal disputes in favor of the Ministry;
1.6 Ensures fulfillment of legal tasks in the implementation of laws and other provisions from the scope of action of the Ministry;
1.7 Cooperates with other institutions of central and local level from the scope of action of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
1.8 Drafts decisions, proposals and different materials as required by the Secretary and the Minister.
2. Legal Department is organized in two divisions:
2.1 Division for drafting and harmonization of legislation; and
2.2 Division for Monitoring the Implementation of laws, legal support and inter institutional cooperation in the area of legislation.
